List: $1,100. MedCon: VG. Two sizes of SG Series gradient makers from Hofer Scientific and one MEGA system gradient maker from Health Products, Inc. All three are acrylic construction with outlet flow valves; the HPI unit has a crack in the casing but should be watertight when repaired with glue.

Electroporation chamber - $375

List: $1,220. MedCon: G. BRL cell porator chamber safe (catalog series 1600) with chamber rack. Uses electrical potential to introduce macromolecules into cells. One sample chambers is present in the rack. These can be purchased commercially with electrode gaps optimized for mammalian/plant or yeast/bacterial cells. Nasba apparatus (isothermic nucleic acid amplification) - $2,375

List: 9,500. MedCon: VG. Organon Technika nasba QR system, model I100-2000. Nasba is an acronym for nucleic acid sequence based amplification. Uses a reverse transcriptase to amplify DNA copies from RNA without the need for thermal cycling. Useful for detecting gene expression levels and the presence and amount of retroviral genomes.
